Ethio Telecom has officially launched its Ethiotel Innovation Program on February 6, 2023, aimed at supporting Ethiopia’s digital finance and technological businesses and innovators. The program will be implemented in three chapters to address challenges faced by start-ups, such as market penetration, customer attraction, and acquisition of finance and experts. The program also aims to encourage local solutions and attract skilled talent, support the development of creative ideas, and create a collaborative environment for tech start-ups, technology partners, and industry players.
The first phase of the program will focus on startups that leverage cloud and mobile financial services and will provide support packages, including financial and in-kind support, marketing support, training, mentoring, and networking opportunities. The top 100 winners will receive professional, financial, and material support, as well as sponsorship to travel to China to gain international experience.
The second phase, set to begin in March 2023, will emphasise on digital content, solutions, services, analytics, consumer and business applications. The final phase, beginning in August 2023, will focus on institutionalising the businesses and innovations and establishing a TechHub centre and research & development centre.
Ethio Telecom and its partners will incubate, train, and empower start-ups and tech entrepreneurs to create a competitive national capacity and build an innovation and co-creation platform. The program is designed to positively impact the development of the digital ecosystem and Ethiopia’s goal of becoming a start-up hub in the continent. Startups interested in the cloud and mobile finance can apply for the program starting February 10, 2023 to March 12, 2023.
