Facebook will no longer let advertisers target teens based on their gender.
Meta, the social media giant’s parent company, announced Tuesday that it will remove gender as an option for advertisers looking to reach teenagers on Facebook and Instagram.
“We recognize that teens aren’t necessarily as equipped as adults to make decisions about how their online data is used for advertising, particularly when it comes to showing them products available to purchase,” Meta said in a blog post.
In early 2022, Coinbase announced that it was doubling down on its expansion plan despite signs of a slowdown in the crypto market and the broader economy
Starting in February, age and location will be the only information that will be shown for ad targeting options, the company said.
Meta also said it will introduce new features that would give teens more ways “to manage the types of ads they see on Facebook and Instagram.”
The changes follow Meta’s earlier decision to also remove the ability of advertisers to target teens “based on their interest and activities.”
