Spotify In the navigation bar, there’s a new Discover icon
According to TechCrunch, Spotify is testing a new TikTok-style video feed in its beta iOS app that shows fullscreen video snippets as songs are played. Chris Messina was the first to notice the function, and he shared a video showing it in action.
The video stream is accessible through a new fourth tab in the navigation bar called “Discover” when it is available. As you go through the stream, you may like individual tunes, and there’s also a three-dot menu symbol that brings up choices for each song.
Spotify acknowledged the test in a statement to TechCrunch, but declined to say whether or when it will be expanded. “At Spotify, we do a variety of tests on a regular basis in order to enhance our customer experience,” a spokeswoman stated. “Some of those experiments pave the route for our larger user experience, while others serve just as valuable learning opportunities.” “At this moment, we don’t have any further information to provide.”
The test comes as Netflix is experimenting with a similar design on its iOS app to help customers find new things to watch. Its new “Kids Clips” section, which follows the debut of a similar “Fast Laughs” stream earlier this year, offers video from its kid-friendly programming.
Even non-social media platforms are increasingly interested in leveraging TikTok’s structure to assist users connect with their own services as TikTok’s engagement hours rise.
Spotify’s current Canvas function, which allows artists to have visuals play with their music on the site, seems to be included into the Discover feed. According to TechCrunch, the videos presented in the Discover stream appear to be the same as those used in Canvas. The revelation of Spotify’s latest test comes exactly a year to the day after the service was experimenting with utilizing a Snapchat-style stories feature alongside some of its playlists, which is an interesting hint of how formats are changing. Who knows what will be fashionable in a year’s time?
